About me
Trading as Jane Clement, then Clement Communication Pty Ltd, I’ve been a freelance copywriter, corporate writer and editor for nearly 30 years.
My background in public relations management and media production gives me a unique perspective on business writing and editing.
I started off by producing live to air, daily series and one-off documentaries for BBC Television and ABC Radio. My journalistic talents were honed there.
Following a career change, I became an in-house marketing communications and publications manager for IBM, Coca-Cola Amatil, Macquarie University, NSW Government and Russell Investment, then a freelance public relations consultant.
By operating inside the corporate and government worlds, I got to understand their needs and challenges and developed the strategic capabilities that are an important part of my tool-kit.
My agency experience was formative too. I was Creative Director and Senior Account Director at two leading Sydney and Auckland public relations agencies.
These roles gave me a good insight into how the business drivers for agencies differ from those for corporations.
When I finally realised that writing and editing was my favourite part of PR and decided to focus on that, it was as though the rest of my career had been leading up to this point. Fifteen years later, I’m still drawing on my multi-faceted background while continuing to learn something new every day.
I have a BA (Hons) English and an MA in Palaeography (that’s the history of handwriting, not the study of dinosaur bones).
I’m a member of IPEd (Editors NSW), the Canberra Society of Editors and the Australian Society of Authors.
